Peggy does a great job in this workshop. She has a great deal of knowledge and takes time to explain until the light comes on. She is great, full of energy, lively, and a great teacher and master in all categories!

Word is a powerful desktop publisher packed with features that will take you from your computer to press. Whether you’re creating a printed book or ebook, Word can do it all. Automatically update a table of contents, index, cross-references, mirror margins, and more...all with Word keeping up as you make changes. You’ll learn how a Word master has used this software to write, design, and lay out five self-published books that sell to the corporate market.

What You'll Experience

Before the PDF
Microsoft® Word is a powerful desktop publisher and has features a lot of users know little or nothing about. Whether you're creating a printed book or ebook, these are features you'll want to master.

  • Create a style and template to make it easy to format everything.

  • Include a table of contents with Word keeping up as the page numbers change.

  • Improve the look of headers and footers and include book title, your URL, and page numbers on almost every page.

  • Create an index with Word keeping up as the page numbers change.

  • Insert pictures with figure captions with Word keeping up as figure numbers change.

  • Insert cross references to other pages with Word keeping up as page numbers change.

  • Insert your actual signature if you add a welcome letter...never a typed one.

  • Paste information that is updated often as a link to the original so every time you change the original, the information in the ebook changes too (e.g., your bio).

  • Make all URLs look like live links and omit the http:// (change text color and underline it). You’ll see why below. (In electronic documents and Web pages, do not underline any text if it’s not going to become a hyperlink later.)

After the PDF (Demo Only)
Once your document is more polished, Adobe® Acrobat® is the tool to use to create the product. It has the most functionality and is worth every penny.

  • Add attachments to the file (e.g., freebies sent as bonuses).

  • Create live URLS throughout the document (they’ll also look live if you changed text color and underlined them before you made the PDF).

  • Create bookmarks to certain pages for easier navigation and display them by default.

  • Create hyperlinks from the table of contents to pages throughout the document for easier navigation.

  • Change the options and how everything is viewed by default.

  • Set security and protect your document from changes.
