Remake, update, navigate

Even if you've been using the software for years,
you probably skipped over a lot of great features.
 

Excel is the most powerful application in the Office suite, but few people take advantage of its power. If you want to take your skills beyond scrolling through a simple spreadsheet, this session is for you. (This training is fast-paced. It does not incorporate creating intricate formulas, nor the basics of entering data.)

Please bring at least one example of a spreadsheet you work with often.
 

Details on What You Will Learn (not for beginners)
 

REMAKE: Clean Up Existing Spreadsheet

  • Reorganize the column layout without cut and paste.
  • Split information in one cell into two or more.
  • Combine information in two cells into one (concatenate).
  • Turn data in rows into columns and vice versa.
  • Use a simple formula to get rid of extra spaces in imported text.
  • Use conditional formatting to make certain cells stand out.

UPDATE: Data Entry and Layout

  • Copy cell data to others using AutoFill and custom lists.
  • Use the data form to add new items to the spreadsheet.
  • Add advanced headers and footers and make each sheet consistent.
  • Make the heading rows repeat on every page automatically.
  • Link cells so as one updates the other does too.

NAVIGATE: Move Around Faster

  • Filter or sort data based on one or more criteria.
  • Navigate faster with hyperlinks, named ranges, and custom views.
  • Use grouping/outlining to show or hide related data.
  • Analyze sales data faster with an intro to pivot tables.

BONUS: Charting

  • Design a default chart and create future ones with one click.
  • Paste and link charts to PowerPoint slides and keep them synched.

BONUS: Mail Merge

  • Create reports, forms, name badges, tent cards, labels, letters, and more when an Excel spreadsheet is the data source.

BONUS: Forms and Templates

  • Format cells and change alignment, borders, shading, and more.
  • Create forms with locked and unlocked cells and protection.
  • Establish validation to allow or restrict certain data input.
  • Save a workbook  as a template and use it later.
